ARLINGTON TRACKSIDE HANDICAPPING CONTEST
Champion: Charles Stephens
 

The Arlington Trackside tournament was a one-day event worth a total of $20,000 in prize money. The top three finishers all earned berths into the NHC, and the top four players earned prize money. The entry fee was $150, and there were 200 players in the field. Entrants made 12 mythical win-and-place wagers on the races from Hawthorne, Aqueduct, Gulfstream, and Keeneland.


*Fourth-place finisher, past NHC qualifier Alex Slivensky, qualifies for the hard-luck award so far this year, finishing one spot out of the money at both Trackside Churchill and Trackside Arlington contests.


*Past NHC luminaries Steve Wolfson Sr. and Steve Walker finished in the top 10, only a few spots out of the money.

THE CHAMPIONSHIP AT THE ORLEANS

Annually one of the premier handicapping tournaments in the country, this year’s Championship at the Orleans drew a field of 693 entries and featured prize money of $346,500, with a cool $110,880 going to the winner. The top players all qualified for the Coast Casinos 2007 Horseplayer World Series. Players paid $500 to enter, and were allowed to enter more than once. The three-day event held on March 30 to April 2 featured too many top players to mention in this space, as do all tournaments hosted by the Orleans Casino in Las Vegas.

TRACKSIDE AT CHURCHILL HANDICAPPING CHALLENGE

The Trackside at Churchill Handicapping Challenge was a $20,000 contest open to 100 players on Saturday, March 18. Cash prizes were paid to the top 10 finishers with $10,000 going to the winner. The winner also qualified for the NHC finals. Players made 10 mythical win-and-place bets chosen from a list of 25 available tournament races from five tracks.

SUFFOLK (NY) OTB HANDICAPPING CONTEST

Suffolk County off-track betting in Long Island New York hosted a one-day handicapping contest on March 18 which attracted 88 players and was worth a total of $17,600 in prize money. The contest paid back 10 spots and offered one Horseplayer World Series qualifying berth. Players made win-and-place bets on a total of 12 races from Aqueduct and Gulfstream Park. The contest cost $200 to enter and attracted mostly local Long Island Horseplayers.
